Not corn worship — but close. Agriculture carved into every floor.
Nobody worships corn at the Capitol. (Unless it's fair week, and even then that's mostly deep-fried.)
But **agriculture is the religion of the decoration** — corn, wheat, sunflowers, bison, plows, harvest scenes — baked into mosaic, relief, and bronze until you stop seeing individual motifs and start feeling the theme: *this state eats because people plant.*
Lee Lawrie's bronze figure is the headline. Hildreth Meière's mosaics are the verses. Exterior reliefs are the footnotes. Walk ten minutes inside and you'll hit more grain iconography than a county fair poster contest.
That's intentional. Nebraska in the 1920s knew exactly what paid the bills. Goodhue's team elevated **farm labor to civic myth** — not as propaganda, but as honest identity.
If buildings could talk, this one would whisper: *"Got corn?"* Yes, building. We got corn.
Pick one room. Count how many non-ag references vs ag references you spot in ten minutes. The ratio tells you everything about 1920s Nebraska self-image — and why outsiders underestimate us.
We weren't trying to look like Europe. We were trying to look like **home.**

The Capitol Commission keeps the tower’s official history, team bios (Goodhue, Lawrie, Meière), and visitor facts. When we rabbit-hole into Art Deco, this is the primary source we point back to.
